The Albums

Welcome to my Tears For Fears blog!  I’m hoping to enjoy a bit of rambling on about Roland Orzabal and his music.

To begin, I feel Roland Orzabal is the most musically creative genius the world has ever seen.  That sounds like an overly grand statement, but anyone who has listened to his albums always agrees.  I was hugely gratified to see a huge amount of TFF vids on YouTube and a few surprises there as well, such as a video for a song they did as a “B” side that Roland didn’t care for at all.  And yet, it managed to get its own vid!

Tears For Fears - The Way You Are

It was interesting to watch the vid and Roland’s performance in it, knowing he thought the song was completely the wrong direction (backwards) for the band.  It wouldn’t be too long after this when tensions would build between him and Curt Smith and the inevitable break up occur.  Watching the vid, though, it’s nice to see Manny Elias (drummer) in action again.  I did miss him once Roland went solo, but his new drummer, Nick, Roland claimed to be a god on drums, so one can’t fault THAT change!

I must confess to loving “The Way You Are”.  It’s a rhythmically melodious song, a signature of Roland’s, and he and Curt harmonize so well together.  But to hear Roland’s solo work, one is almost glad for that heartache, since it produced some of the most perfect songs ever written.  But that’s another blog entry.  ;-)

Roland and Curt have gotten back together and indeed had a concert tour as recently as two years ago.  But for me, Tears For Fears will always be Roland Orzabal.  The “other genius” in my life.  (LOL - If you found this blog, you likely know I’m a HUGE Russell Crowe fan. ;-) )

Okay that’s it for the first entry!  See you again when I find something else to jabber about with regards to Roland Orzabal and Tears For Fears!

It’s a Strange Affair, after all.  ;-)
